![]() Mary Searcy Bixby Through her passion for education reform, Bixby has led The Charter School of San Diego as its Founder, President and CEO since its inception in 1994. She serves as the organizational leader for the school's support team and is responsible for its short and long-term objectives, growth and strategic plans. She is a coach, mentor and evaluator, meeting weekly with senior leaders to discuss the progress and the future of the organization. Consistently heralded as a visionary in education curriculum and leadership, Bixby was the first individual to receive the Inspirational School Leader Award from the Charter Schools Development Center in 2006. Bixby is a recipient of the Francis Buddy Award for Leadership, Initiative and Excellence, the Cross Pro Ecclesia from Pope John Paul II for service through education, and the California State Assembly has recognized her service to youth and community. Her innovative work in the creation of a citywide charter school was acknowledged by the California Network of Educational Charter Schools with its first Senator Gary Hart Vision Award in 1995. |
Through all of these acknowledgments, Bixby's influence and determination has touched the lives of more than 12,000 students, and counting. Continuing her decades-long commitment to education reform, Bixby has created The Altus Institute. The institute will act as a national resource for innovative methodologies regarding alternative education, and serve as an overarching guide to its many entities - The Charter School of San Diego, Audeo Charter School, and Mirus Secondary School- just as these organizations will be influenced by the research and discussions led by the institute. The Altus Institute is a testament to Bixby's determination and vision for education reform. Bixby and her team are pioneers in developing systems for systemically holding individuals accountable for their work. The improvements of organizations through accountability and the use of data to drive decision-making was a critical part of the design of the schools created by Bixby and her colleagues. The successful implementation of these key concepts has brought the Altus Schools recognition as Malcolm Baldrige Schools. In 2005 and 2007 The Charter School of San Diego received the highly acclaimed California Award for Performance Excellence. This is an award the originated as a business sector recognition. Her work ranks among other prestigious recipients such as Verizon, The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Pt. Hueneme, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Sharp Healthcare. Bixby received her master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of San Diego, and is widely acknowledged as an expert on the design and implementation of educational programs for students at risk. She has a background in teaching elementary, secondary and adult students. With more than 30 years of financial management and planning expertise, Alipio guides the financial operations and business services of The Charter School of San Diego as the school's Chief Financial Officer. In addition to her extensive financial knowledge, Alipio is responsible for advising the organization on legislative issues and legal compliance manners. She analyzes growth and development changes, oversees accounting standards and maximizes resources for the school's instructional goals. Alipio is a senior leader of The Charter School of San Diego and promotes the leadership steps necessary to meet the needs of the school's students, parents and community. She began her work with The Charter School of San Diego in 1995 as a financial analyst, after gaining a vast background of experience working with the San Diego Unified School District for more than a decade. Alipio, who received her master's degree in business administration from National University, is affiliated with the California Association of School Business Officials, the Military Child Education Coalition, and the National Association of Charter School Authorizers.

Fajardo As The Charter School of San Diego's Director of Organizational Effectiveness, Fajardo is a senior leader responsible for maintaining a systematic approach to guiding the school's operations and instruction. She was instrumental in developing accountability measures to monitor teacher and student performance, and facilitated the creation of the school's systems for collaboration and communications. Fajardo's leadership activities are highlighted by her involvement with the Digital High School Grant, the California Awards for Performance Excellence, and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation. Prior to coming to the school in 1995, Fajardo was Director of the Institute for Quality and Productivity, San Diego State University's College of Extended Studies. During her 14 years at the university, Fajardo worked extensively with the business community and faculty in developing training programs in the areas of strategic planning, continuous improvement, and management. She graduated from National University with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

![]() Tiffany Yandell As Operations Coordinator, Yandell is a member of The Charter School of San Diego's support team, which supervises the implementation of activities focused on student achievement and day-to-day management of the school. Yandell first began her involvement with The Charter School of San Diego, working summers from 1998 to 2001 as an accounting and audit assistant. Her expertise lies in a variety of fields, including employment law, public relations and California Teacher Credentials. She has demonstrated leadership and service to her profession through her involvement in the California Awards for Performance Excellence and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). She is affiliated with the Society of Human Resource Managers, Charter Schools Development Center and the California Council for Excellence. Yandell graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a master's degree in business administration. |
![]() Debora Giaquinta Giaquinta has been involved with The Charter School of San Diego as a teacher and resource coordinator since 1997. Her teaching responsibilities included delivering instruction, facilitating state-mandated testing and working with parents to encourage student success. In her current role, she is responsible for overseeing the teaching staff, planning and coordinating instructional conferences, which focus on improving content knowledge and instructional strategies to enable students to achieve academic standards. She serves as a liaison to the community and is a resource for students and parents. She is also a member of The Charter School of San Diego's support team, and she assists in monitoring student performance and staff effectiveness, developing strategies for improving student learning results and designing program initiatives that support student learning. Giaquinta has a bachelor's degree in business administration from National University. She is a board member of the NICE GUYS. |

Quann Quann is the Program Administrator for The Charter School of San Diego and is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and outcome of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. She evaluates data as it relates to student achievement. Quann serves as a liaison to the community and is a resource for teachers, students, and parents. She leads The Charter School of San Diego's professional development, which focuses on improving content knowledge and instructional strategies to enable students to achieve academic standards. Her areas of expertise lie in curriculum development, instructional leadership, assessment and accountability, and education law. Quann began her involvement with The Charter School of San Diego in 1997 as a teacher and served as an administrator for Audeo Charter School from 2002-2004. Demonstrating her commitment to education and learning, Quann leads the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) as its chair and is a co-developer of Audeo Charter School. She is affiliated with California Council for Excellence and the Charter Schools Development Center. Quann received her master's degree in instructional leadership from National University.
