Admissions Information and Process
  1. Parents/guardians are advised to discuss the CSSD as a voluntary option with their student's current school counselor.

  2. Parents/guardians may opt to begin the process by attending an Informational Appointment with a CSSD Student Services Representative who will share information regarding the school and assist with the admission process.

    • Informational Appointments are an opportunity to learn about the CSSD educational program and requirements. When the family decides to choose CSSD as the option for their student, the parent/guardian will complete admission documents and the student will participate in reading, math, and a writing assessment. The duration of these appointments may be from one to two hours. (NOTE: Completing the documents and assessment DOES NOT mean the student is enrolled in the school – it begins the process.)

  3. Documents needed for admissions (usually obtained from the sending school):
    • Admissions application (available online) or School Initiated Placement-SIP form (San Diego City Schools)
    • Transcript
    • Immunization/health records
    • Discipline record
    • Memo/note from previous school regarding student's Special Education status or, if available, Encore Screen Print/Special Education information (San Diego City Schools)

    NOTE: Informational Appointments may be scheduled without ALL the documents. CSSD's Student Services Representative can assist in obtaining the documents from the previous school after the appointment.

  4. Ways to submit documents
    • Schedule an Informational Appointment by calling (858-678-2020). At the appointment, a Student Services Representative helps you learn more about the program features and its requirements. Documents can be submitted at this time to begin the process if you choose CSSD as your student's education option.
    • Fax documents to CSSD (858-552-6666). Family will receive call to schedule an Informational Appointment.
    • Submit documents by mail to Altus-The Charter School of San Diego, 10170 Huennekens Street, San Diego 92121. Family will receive call to schedule an Informational Appointment.
    • Submit initial form on-line for the school website to begin the process. Please notify your student's current school counselor immediately of your intention to consider CSSD as an option for your student. Family will receive call to schedule an Informational Appointment.

  5. Informational Appointments are scheduled by calling 858-678-2020. Parent/guardian and student are required to attend the appointment together.

    Individual family appointments are currently held at CSSD Old Town Office (2245 San Diego Avenue, Suite 125). Group informational sessions are held at CSSD Sorrento Mesa Administrative Center (10170 Huennekens Street, San Diego 92121).

    Appointments are available on:
    • Mondays -- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Individual family appointments at Old Town)
    • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays -- 8 a.m. to 12 noon. (Individual Family appointments at Old Town)
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays -- 10 a.m. (Group Informational session at Sorrento Mesa.)
    • Saturdays – one Saturday per month from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. (Individual Family appointments at Old Town)

  6. After the Informational Appointment:
    • The counselor reviews records and assessments to initiate the personalized education plan for the student.
    • Student will be assigned to a Learning Center based on stated preferences AND the availability at the location.
    • Parent/guardian may be required to gather documents to complete the process.
    • Students must continue attendance/enrollment in their current school until the family receives a call from the Learning Center teacher to meet.

  7. When students are assigned to a learning center, the teacher responsible for the student's program contacts the family to schedule the first meeting. Together they review/modify the personal educational plan based on the student's academic and post-high school/career goals.
